The 4th World Conference on Smart Tourism (WCST 2026) will be held at Duy Tân University in Da Nang, Vietnam, from Wednesday, December 16 to Saturday, December 19, 2026. Under the theme “Synergizing Industry and Academia: Harnessing AI for Transformative Tourism and Hospitality in the Global South,” the conference will bring together leading international scholars, industry experts, and policymakers to share knowledge and exchange ideas on the future of tourism and hospitality innovation.
WCST 2026 aims to provide meaningful insights into how artificial intelligence, big data, immersive technologies, and smart city infrastructures are reshaping tourism and hospitality in the Global South. The conference seeks to explore collaborative frameworks between academia and industry, focusing on innovation, capacity building, and sustainable development across emerging tourism economies.

Haiyan Song
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Professor Haiyan Song is Mr and Mrs Chan Chak Fu Professor in International Tourism and Director of the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Professor Haiyan Song has a strong background in Economics. His research focuses on tourism economics with a particular focus on tourism demand modeling and forecasting, tourism supply chain management, tourist satisfaction, and wine economics. Over the years, Professor Song has played significant roles in a number of international consultancy and collaborative projects, covering tourist satisfaction and service quality indices, Asia Pacific visitor forecasts, web-based tourism demand forecasting system, which have considerable impacts on destination management. Professor Song has written extensively on tourism economics, Chinese economy in transition, digital transformation of tourism and tourism demand forecasting methodologies. Many of his work has appeared in such academic journals as Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Development Economics, International Journal of Forecasting and Economic Modelling.
Professor Song is an elected Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism (IAST), International Association for China Tourism Studies (IACTS) and the Chinese Economic Association in the UK/Europe (CEA UK/Europe). The honors he received include the John Wiley & Sons Lifetime Research Achievement Award and Lifetime Research Achievement Award by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) in 2010 and 2023, respectively, He is also a recipient of the Michael D. Olsen Research Achievement Award by University of Delaware in 2014.

Sang T. Lim

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lim Sang Taek is a distinguished academic leader serving as Dean of the International School and Dean of the Hospitality & Tourism Institute at Duy Tan University in Da Nang, Vietnam. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree and has an extensive international academic background, including a Bachelor of Science from Yonsei University (Korea), an MBA from the University of Dallas (USA), and a DBA from United States International University (USA). He also served as a Visiting Professor at Griffith University in Australia early in his career. Prior to joining Duy Tan University, Dr. Lim was a professor at the School of Tourism Management at Dong-A University in Busan, Korea, and has been actively engaged in global tourism education and training initiatives.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lim has held numerous leadership roles in regional and international tourism associations, including Chairmanship of the Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) and founding membership in Asia Pacific Education & Training in Tourism (APETIT) under UNESCAP. He has also served on the board of the Korea Tourism Organization and contributed to aviation safety policy through the Korean Ministry of Land and Transportation. His work emphasizes advancing tourism research, education, and industry collaboration in Asia-Pacific, and under his leadership, Duy Tan University continues to expand its global engagement in hospitality and tourism studies.

Kyung Hee University
Professor Chulmo Koo is a distinguished scholar at the College of Hotel and Tourism Management, Kyung Hee University, specializing in the field of smart tourism. His research covers a wide range of cutting-edge topics including virtual and augmented reality applications in tourism, metaverse-based experiences, ICT-driven service innovation, online review analytics, and the socio-spatial implications of smart tourism cities. Professor Koo has published extensively in leading international journals (SSCI/SCOPUS indexed), contributing valuable insights that bridge academic theory with industry practice.
Beyond his scholarly achievements, Professor Koo serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Smart Tourism (JST), a premier international journal dedicated to advancing knowledge in smart technologies and their applications in tourism. Through this role, he plays a pivotal part in shaping the global research agenda and fostering scholarly exchange in the rapidly evolving domain of smart tourism. His leadership in both academia and editorial stewardship highlights his commitment to advancing innovation, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the sustainable development of the tourism industry.

Bui Kim Luan

Dr. Bui Kim Luan is the Dean of the Hospitality & Tourism Institute, Duy Tan University, Vietnam. He has extensive experience in higher education leadership, curriculum development, and international cooperation in tourism and hospitality education. In his role, Dr. Bui plays a key part in shaping industry-oriented and internationally aligned academic programs, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning, student mobility, and close collaboration between universities and industry partners.
He is actively involved in building and strengthening global partnerships with universities, hotels, airlines, and tourism organizations across Asia and beyond. Through these collaborations, Dr. Bui contributes to the development of globally competent graduates and promotes the integration of academic training with real-world industry practices in hospitality and tourism.

Dr. LI, Hui is Professor at Nankai University, Associate Dean of College of Tourism and Service Management, and an IEEE Senior Member. He is on the 2017 National Young Talent Program of Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the First Level of Tianjin 131 Creative Talent Program, the One Hundred Young Academic Leaders of Nankai University, and lead a team of One Hundred Young Academic Leaders of Nankai University. He has also received the Zhejiang Provincial Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and is on Zhejiang Provincial Zhijiang Young Social Science Scholar Program and Qianjiang Talent Program.
His research interests focus on tourism big data mining and prediction, tourism corporate management and governance, tourism firm survival and restructuring, tourism management and decision science. Beyond research, he has played significant roles in scientific projects and academic leadership, contributing to curriculum development and collaborative efforts with organizations such as JICA and the Korea Tourism Organization.

Hengyen Li
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neil Hengyun Li is an Associate Professor in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and a member of the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism (RCDTT). He earned his Ph.D. in Hospitality Management from the University of South Carolina and joined PolyU’s faculty in 2018. Dr. Li’s academic work bridges hospitality and tourism with cutting-edge digital technologies, focusing on digital marketing and analytics, applications of artificial intelligence in business, and big data-driven tourism demand forecasting. His research contributions have been widely published and cited, reflecting his strong presence in the fields of AI-enhanced business innovations and tourism analytics.
Dr. Li has secured competitive research funding from prestigious national and international bodies, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Hong Kong Research Grant Council, and has been recognized with multiple awards for research excellence. His interdisciplinary research on AI, big data, and digital platforms has advanced understanding of tourism and hospitality trends, and he actively collaborates with scholars and industry partners worldwide. Through his work, Dr. Li continues to contribute to transforming tourism and hospitality research in the digital era.

Cece Leung

Prof. Cece X. Y. Leung earned her Ph.D. in Hospitality Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and previously completed both her master’s and doctoral degrees at Peking University. Before joining Kansas State University, she served as an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator at the University of North Texas and accumulated over a decade of industry experience in events, tourism, and airline revenue management. With this diverse background, she teaches hospitality marketing and information technology, integrating real-world insights into her academic work.
Prof. Leung’s research focuses on information technology, social media, hospitality management, destination marketing, and hospitality education, with a strong emphasis on applying emerging technologies to advance hospitality and tourism practices. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and has received 17 major research awards, including recognition as one of the “World’s Top 2% Cited Scientists” by Stanford University. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for Tourism Review and the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and sits on the editorial boards of nine leading journals in hospitality and tourism.

Namho Chung is a Professor in the Smart Tourism Education Platform and the Director of the Smart Tourism Research Center at Kyung Hee University, South Korea. He has led BK21 FOUR and national smart tourism research projects for over a decade and was inducted into Kyung Hee University’s Hall of Fame in recognition of his academic achievements. In 2025, he was selected as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (HCR), acknowledging his significant and sustained impact in the field of tourism and hospitality research.

Associate Professor Dr. Quảng Đại Tuyên is a senior academic and educator currently serving as Vice Dean (Phó Trưởng khoa) of the Faculty of Tourism at Van Lang University (VLU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where he teaches and mentors students in tourism and hospitality studies. He holds the academic title PGS. TS. (Associate Professor, Doctor of Philosophy) and is actively involved in the development of the faculty’s academic programs and student research activities.
Dr. Tuyên’s research focuses on sustainable tourism, heritage conservation, and community-based tourism. He has authored numerous scholarly publications and participates in collaborative international research projects, contributing to academic knowledge on tourism development and cultural heritage preservation. Beyond his role at VLU, he is recognized for his work engaging with wider scholarly networks and advancing tourism research in Vietnam and the Southeast Asia region.

Pornpisanu Promsivapallop
Prince of Songkla University
Dr. Pornpisanu Promsivapallop is an Associate Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism at Prince of Songkla University. He holds a Ph.D. in Hospitality Management from the University of Surrey, U.K., a Master of Business from the University of Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Business from Monash University, Australia. Additionally, he is a Senior Fellow of the UK Professional Standards Framework.
Dr. Promsivapallop plays a prominent role in regional tourism development as the National Representative for the Asia Pacific Tourism Association and Vice President of the ASEAN Tourism Research Association. He is also a member of the Consortium for Global Sustainability. His scholarly contributions include 30 academic journal articles in Scopus/ISI-listed publications and two book chapters. He serves on multiple editorial boards, including the Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research.
A passionate international collaborator, Dr. Promsivapallop has contributed significantly to three Erasmus+ Capacity Building Projects, advancing global tourism education and sustainability. His dedication to social empowerment in the tourism sector was recently recognized with the 2023 Australian Alumni Association (Thailand) Award: Regional Champion Social Empowerment Award, highlighting his impact on fostering positive societal change.

Holding a Doctorate in Business Administration with a specialisation in branding, he is recognised as a certified corporate trainer, hotelier, sommelier, and barista. Actively engaged in Malaysia's F&B industry through industrial projects and ongoing education initiatives, Dr Chong brings invaluable expertise to the field. With a strong background in management, training, and consultancy within the F&B sector, he has represented leading multinational hotel groups and franchised restaurants. Dr Chong's research contributions encompass sustainable practices, challenges, and opportunities within Asia's tourism, hospitality, and food industries.

Dr. Phuong Bui L. A. holds a Ph.D. in Tourism Management from National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (Taiwan, 2021). She has completed advanced training at Pennsylvania State University (USA) and obtained ASEAN Master Trainer and Assessor certifications from William Angliss Institute (Malaysia).
She is a tourism and hospitality scholar and academic leader, currently serving as Vice Dean of the Hospitality and Tourism Institute at Duy Tan University. She also serves as Vice Director of Passage to ASEAN (P2A) and Vice President of the ASEAN Research Network, recognized by the ASEAN Secretariat, where she coordinates regional collaboration in education, research, and workforce mobility across Southeast Asia.
Her expertise focuses on sustainable tourism development, digital transformation in hospitality education, and intercultural learning.
